Man hospitalized after driving vehicle onto icy reservoir

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a vehicle that was driven by Clintin Lynch, 30, Connersville, down the Fairfield boat ramp and onto the ice at the Brookville Reservoir in Union County Tuesday morning, March 10, at about 7:30 a.m., said Officer Joshua Thomas of Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement.

“The vehicle then flipped onto its roof and came to rest on top of the ice. Lynch was unable to open any of the vehicle’s doors and kicked the back window out to evacuate the vehicle.”

The officer continued, “While attempting to get to safety, he fell through the ice before making it to shore. Lynch then removed himself from the water and made it to a nearby home, where he was given warm clothing and medical attention.”

He was transported to Reid Memorial Hospital in Wayne County. Injuries are unknown. Indiana Conservation Officers and other emergency personnel arrived at the scene at approximately 7:57 a.m. The incident is still under investigation.

Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage exercising extreme caution around frozen bodies of water as well as icy ramps and roadways.
