A 17-year-old was injured in a hunting accident Sunday in New Goshen, said Indiana Conservation Officer Nathan Lutz.At about 5 p.m., the hunter attempted to fire his rifle, which exploded. The juvenile suffered lacerations to his right cheek and possibly a fracture jaw, Lutz reports. The hunter was transported by family members to Union Hospital, before continuing by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Indiana Conservation Officers are currently investigating the incident, but no foul play is suspected at this time, Lutz reports. Lutz said officers are still working to locate the teen’s gun. He may have been hunting alone, Lutz said, and he came out of the woods to get help. Family members got him to the hospital sometime after 7. He underwent surgery Sunday at Methodist Hospital.
